St. Paul City Council removes the word "Saint" from city name to avoid offending non-Christians

• I'd say something but i don't want to offend you.

• Anyone who is offended by a toy rabbit and pastel-colored Easter eggs has some serious mental issues that need to be looked into.

• On the flipside of Oren's post, I worked for a public library my senior year of college. They first decreed that all Christmas decorations were to be taken down...then had the brilliant flash to put them back up, along with Menorahs for Hanukkah and stuff for Chinese New Year. (I have to be missing a holiday here, but it was over ten years ago and honestly I'm still learning what everyone else in the world celebrates. Don't blame me, I grew up in rural Iowa!) Anyway, the response was overwhelmingly positive, all around. It was a learning experience, and a lot better than not letting anyone celebrate anything!

• While I think that "offending people" should be less of a concern than violating constitutional issues relating to antidisestablishmentarianism, I have a feeling a lot of the people offended by the REMOVAL of this stuff wouldn't be all to pleased with a "Happy Ramadan" banner being put up, to the exclusion of any other items.

• I suspect bias on your part, Demko.

• I wholly endorse this move. It's about time. Now what to do with the St. Paul Saints?
