Bye, Bye, Miss American Idle

After four years, I'm leaving City Pages and closing up shop on American Idle. Much thanks to those who stopped by. A very special takk to Mark Gisleson at Norwegianity for endlessly sending new readers my way. A tip of the hat to Wonkette, Defamer, Raw Story, Atrios, Talking Points Memo, and others who linked to my work.

My pop culture sensibilities wouldn't be sated unless I ended with the closest thing to a montage. Maybe hum "Time of Your Life" by Green Day or Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" or something...

Wow. Scrolling through all of that at one time was like a really bad trip man. Couldn't you have found cheerier times to photoshop about?

I hope this career move doesn't provide you with an even larger audience some day. You've traumatized enough children, thank you very much.

And no, I've never forgiven you for the Nacho Libre poster, you bastard.

The American Idle archive is as funny a collection of work as anything on the Web. Corey set the laugh-out-loud bar for City Pages blogs so consistently high, it was a real pain trying to even come close. But I'm glad for the opportunity to share a blogspace with him for the past few years, and personally grateful for all the help he's given me during that time.

So to invoke my least-favorite guy, Bob Hope, thanks for the memories, Corey. Continue making them, and by all means, more pics of Gisleson!

And in case you missed it, here's where Corey's going. Best of luck!

Oh god! Where will I get my daily fix of Britney and Bush (but not Britney's bush)!?!?!? It was great working with you, Corey. Keep it real in the 612.

Congratulations, Corey! You are my all-time favorite co-worker on the entire planet of co-working planet workers. And, like, you're not lazy, even when it gets dark and stuff.

I don't recall seeing one of your entries on our headline web site. I suppose I could've offered you some scratch for your talent.

Best wishes to you, Corey!
