Audio slideshow from RetroRama now available

I've just posted an audio slideshow from RetroRama to go along with the photo gallery. The sounds are from atmospheric saxophone music, Dave Salmela and the Velvet Lounge Band's rendition of "Makin' Whoopie," play-by-play from the 1950s fashion show and an excerpt from Electric Arc Radio. Check it out! The sound helps give you a feel for the event.

The grand finale of Catwalk Confessional, Mary O'Regan's online diary about her experiences modeling for the Voltage fashion show, is now posted in our gallery section. This is it, the night of the big rock 'n' roll fashion show: "I spend the next 20 minutes quietly panicking in a chair. My eyes are open and my mouth is half smiling, but inside, I'm imagining my ankles shattering the moment I step on the runway. I stare at my choreography notes and wipe sweat beads from my forehead." Check out the series here: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI, Part VII.

Part six of Catwalk Confessional, Mary O'Regan's online diary about her experiences modeling for tonight's Voltage fashion show, is now posted in our gallery section. In this episode, Mary joins the rehearsal to run through her steps on the tricky zigzagging catwalk. An excerpt: "The choreography gets even more complicated during Anne Selden's set. Walk to the end of the runway; pose; exit; walk to the end of the long segment; remove jacket; pose; switch positions with model on right; pose; exit. If I can successfully complete this routine, I deserve $10,000, my own fashion spread in Elle magazine, and an appearance at New York's Fashion Week. (I'll settle for not looking like the slow kid in the school assembly.)" Check out the series here: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI.

Part five of Catwalk Confessional, Mary O'Regan's online diary about her experiences modeling for next month's Voltage fashion show, is now posted in our gallery section. In this episode, Mary visits fashion designer George Moskal to try on a few of his works she'll be modelling in the show. An excerpt: "First is a gray, backless cocktail gown with a top half that wraps around my neck and down across my breasts... and that's about all there is to it. My chest and stomach are exposed to the world. The bottom half features a wide belt that pours into a flirty skirt—part Lorca, part Katarina Witt." Check out the series here: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V.

Part four of Catwalk Confessional, Mary O'Regan's online diary about her experiences modeling for next month's Voltage fashion show, is now posted in our gallery section. In this episode, Mary takes part in the the Voltage LookBook, a catalogue of band bios and designers' photo spreads. An excerpt: "I try to hold my head still as [Kelsy] spritzes me down with water, divides my scalp into sections, and secures chunks of hair with tiny rubber bands. This will be Kelsy's first year doing hair for Voltage, and her fifth big show. She describes working with makeup artists and models as 'little jam sessions' in which 'more and more people are added to our family.'" Check out the series here: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV.

Part three of Mary O'Regan's online diary of her experiences modeling for the Voltage show next month has been posted. In this segment, Mary visits local designer Kerry Riley, founder of Red Shoe Clothing Co., at her home studio to discuss preparations for the April 11 fashion blowout: "Going national is typically the next step once a designer finds local success. Some, like Riley's pal, designer Katherine Gerdes, turn to reality TV. 'Since Project Runway's been on, my friends have been bugging me to go do [it]. I've always said no' Riley says, flattening down a seam. 'I think the challenges sound really fun, and I think that'd be a great thing to do, but I'm not interested in doing that on camera in front of millions of people.'" Catwalk Confessional Part II: The Fitting

Part two of Mary O'Regan's online diary of her experiences modeling for the Voltage show next month has been posted. In this segment, Mary meets with local fashion designer Anne Selden for her first fitting: "She circles me, fluffing the loose waist, pulling it down on my hips, and declares that it fits perfectly, but does not flatter my rear. Rather than letting my ego seep out my pores and form a puddle on the concrete, I take her remark as artistic criticism, and hear my mother's words echoing in my head. Everyone comes in different shapes and sizes." Check out Catwalk Confessional p.II: The Fitting here.

City Pages intern and budding model Mary O'Regan leads us through the Marlboro smoke and empty Diet Coke cans with a photo diary chronicling her experiences modeling for the upcoming Voltage Fashion Amplified rock and fashion show on April 11 at First Avenue. Check out the first installment here, where Mary gets measured, checks in with Voltage producer Anna Lee, and struts her stuff (looking "fierce") before the icy stares of the judges who will decide if she stays or if she goes.
