This week we have the bike-friendly art party ARTCRANK, a three-day conference exploring hip hop, and an evening dedicated to folk musician John Prine.

This three-day conference features workshops, performances, discussions, and educational events centered on how hip hop, activism, and culture can empower and transform communities. Sounds pretty cool, right? Hosted by the U of M, topics covered range from women in hip hop to hip hop and activism. Lecturers include filmmaker Rachel Ramist, poet Tish Jones, photographer B-Fresh, former Green Party Vice Presidential candidate Rosa Clemente, rapper/poet Kyle 'Guante' Myhre, and others. Most events are free, but some have a cover charge. Register online. 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Who knows what will happen when Mankwe Ndosi pairs musicians, poets, dancers, visual artists, mimes, MCs, and other artists in collaborations that will result in truly unique performances. Guests can participate or watch. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

We can't help but feel happy when we see Amy Rice's sunny artwork. Her pastel-colored optimism gets us every time. This group show will also feature glasswork by Allan Ingenito and jewelry by Beth Baker. Opening reception is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
