Birdemic: Shock and Terror to screen in Minneapolis

Ever wonder what would have happened if Ed Wood been the one to film Hitchcock's The Birds? The resulting movie may have looked a little like the low-budget, stock-footage laden, pending cult classic Birdemic: Shock and Terror. The movie is a classic animal disaster flick: Due to global warming, vultures and eagles have begun attacking humans. The environment has turned them into exploding, flammable monsters with acidic urine that must be fended off using coat hangers and AK 47s. Will the human race survive? Will the female lead make it as a model? Is this the worst movie ever made?

EW film critic Clark Collis astutely points out that is took writer/producer/director James Nguyen four years to complete Birdemic, the same amount of time it took James Cameron to complete Avatar. Yet Nguyen's efforts have not been declared a masterpiece... yet.

After being rejected from the Sundance Film Festival, Nguyen, a Silicon Valley software salesman, protested on the streets in his Nissan Quest, which he covered with fake blood and birds. Through such efforts the movie was eventually picked up for distribution by Severin Films.

You can catch Birdemic this weekend at midnight screenings Friday and Saturday at the Uptown Theater (2906 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis). We suggest, um, hitting up the bars before attending. Check out the sneak peak below.
