Lacey Piotter, Anna Reichart, Alberta Mirais in "Troilus and Cressida": free at a park near you
It may not have been a particularly balmy week, but the calendar doesn't lie: we're heading toward a stretch when an evening spent outside taking in a show might be just the thing. Currently there are two free, outdoor Shakespeare productions appearing in Twin Cities parks, where a blanket in the grass and a basket of goodies would presumably complete the scene.

The Cromulent Shakespeare Company is staging a production of Troilus and Cressida, Shakespeare's notably complex tragedy (with comedic elements) set against the classical backdrop of the Trojan War.

Here's the schedule for these free performances:

Friday June 18: Powderhorn Park, 7:00 p.m.
Saturday June 19: Como Historic Streetcar Station, St. Paul, 7:00 p.m.
Sunday June 20: Maple Grove Town Green Bandshell, 6:30 p.m.

Friday June 25: Caponi Art Park, Eagan, 6:30 p.m.
Saturday June 26: Minnehaha Park, 7:00 p.m.

Meanwhile the Upright Egg Theatre Company is presenting Shakespeare's fantastic young-love mind-bender A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The schedule:

Friday June 18-Sunday June 20: Como Park, St. Paul, 7:30 p.m.
Friday June 25-Saturday June 26: Powderhorn Park, 7:30 p.m.
Friday July 2-Saturday July 3: Newell Park, St. Paul, 7:30 p.m.
Friday July 9-Saturday July 10: Matthews Park, Minneapolis.

All shows are free.
