Bruce Hudson-Bogaard's latest exhibition at Traffic Zone Gallery includes a passage from a 1960s edition of The Sea Around Us by marine biologist Rachel Carson: "It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose, should now be threatened by the activities of one form of life. But the sea, though changed in a sinister way, will continue to exist; the threat is rather to life itself."

It is an eerily enduring concern and one that hits especially hard with the recent oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. And though her exhibition, "Oceans in Peril," is the culmination of three years work, it is a timely collection that touches on the fragile future of the ocean.

This is the final week for the gallery show, which features 10 oil paintings. Each are saturated with color, making them bright and almost cheerful at first, but also quite desolate.

All events free and open to the public. Traffic Zone Gallery is located at 250 Third Avenue North in Minneapolis.
