The plot is not one about which a doctoral thesis will be written: four guys hang out in a barbershop, exchange a few words of dialogue here and there, and then launch into song. If anything, the lack of a concerted effort to shoehorn more of a narrative into this thing is downright refreshing.
Dipping into the 1960s and 70s R&B and funk songbook is never a bad idea, and here the hits just keep coming: "Can't Get Enough of Your Love," "Talking Loud and Saying Nothing," "Lets Get It On," and a incendiary "Me and Mrs. Jones."
It's a big weekend coming up for theater here in town, with new shows opening at the Guthrie, Children's Theatre Company, Mixed Blood, Penumbra, and Park Square. More on those in days to come, but for the moment, Illusion offers up several more chances to catch Always & Forever's funky love fest.
