Because I Ain't Attached to This Shit: An art and garage sale for Yuri Arajs

​Moving to a new residence can be exhausting. Art curator and mentor Yuri Arajs moved from Minnesota to British Columbia in 2008 and is still dealing with the pangs of not having enough boxes. He left many of his belongings behind, and now, two years later, he's decided to have a garage sale rather than trying to haul the rest of his unique collection to his new abode.

Curator and art hound that he is, Arajs's garage is overflowing with pieces that he didn't have room to pack. So this is not just any garage sale, but an exhibit--a temporary installation even. It even has its own title: Because I Aint Attached to This Shit: An Interventionist Art and Garage Sale for Yuri Arajs by Amy Rice.

Local artist Amy Rice--one of Arajs's discoveries--is taking over the details of the garage sale, and alludes that this event may be a little painful for Arajs. "If you tell [Arajs] how much (how little) you paid for stuff I will be in big trouble," says Rice. "So prices are a secret in the deal. Okay?"

Even more enticing: "This is not the left-over stuff from the garage sale Yuri had when he moved," Rice explains. "This is art and artifacts Yuri planned to keep." Suddenly being asked to help clean out a garage over the weekend doesn't seem like such a chore.

The garage sale will be located at 650 Pierce Street Northeast in Minneapolis this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enter through alley.
