If you've never seen famous Mexican wrestler El Santo attack another luchador, we highly recommend it. Next weekend, the Parkway movie theater introduces its upcoming film series, El Santo - The Mexican Avenger, with this: "The great Santo, masked avenger of the Mexican cinema and our inspiration. At time cruel, his hands and fists could pound into meal; a delicious meal of destruction and justice on equal terms."

The "great Santo" they speak of is actor and professional wrestler Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta, also known as the silver masked man or the Saint.

The Parkway's free film series begins on September 4 with Anonimo Mortial (1972), a part of Televisa's audiovisual library. It is presented by Division Filmica, Fundacion Televisa, and the Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores (Ministry of Foreign Affaires) as a cultural exchange donation to the American public.

From Wikipedia:

El Santo...is one of the most famous and iconic of all Mexican luchadores, and has been referred to as one of 'the greatest legends in Mexican sports.' His wrestling career spanned nearly five decades, during which he became a folk hero and a symbol of justice for the common man through his appearances in comic books and movies.

Watch a clip from Santo Y Blue Demon En Law Atlantida, another film that is part of this special series, here.

El Santo - The Mexican Avenger film series screens at The Parkway (4814 Chicago Ave. S., Minneapolis) Saturdays at noon from September 4 through October 2. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Scheduled films include Anonimo Mortal (1972), Santo Y Blue Demon vs. Los Monstruos (1969), Santo Contra Las Lobas, Santo Y Blue Demon En Law Atlantida (1970), and Santo En El Museo De Cera.
