"Evolution" opens at Interact Gallery tonight

As the leaves on the trees begin changing from green to the red and gold hues of autumn, it's fitting that Interact Gallery's new exhibit, "Evolution," presents a collection of art portraying the process of change over time.

The group show features artists' reflections and observations on the topic through portraits, landscapes, drawings, and presentation of everyday objects. The overall theme of transformation is quite broad for this gallery show, which includes works by 75 students, but the topic was explored mainly through the slight changes in everyday life, and relationship shifts between artist and their artwork.

A handful of selected works will be displayed in a creative timeline, showing the progression the artist went through to complete their piece, such as the transition from a black and white sketch into a colorful portrait.

These works will be on display through November 19, with an opening reception tonight that includes live music from 6 to 9 p.m. The Interact Gallery is located at the Colonial Warehouse in the North Loop region of downtown Minneapolis, and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is part of the Interact Center's studio and theater supporting the creative growth of artists with disabilities. It is the only visual and performing arts center of its kind in the U.S.
