NARS makeup artist Sal Rodriguez talks fall beauty
Jane Belfry: What big beauty trends are you seeing for fall?
Sal Rodriguez: I'd say the biggest beauty trend that suits everyone is a matte complexion--soft, matte, and polished. Also, there's the return of the femme fatale, so don't be afraid to do a heavy eye and stand out lip.
JB: What products can you recommend to achieve these looks?
SR: Look for water-based foundations that don't feel dry or heavy. Loose powder is back in full force and the Nars Botan brush is ideal for that polished, un-cakey finish. Shades of autumn are best for the new femme fatale. Forget the usual blacks--try shades of plum, burgundy, mustard, and olive green. For lip color think deep berry and jewel tones.
| The new line of Nars Pure Matte lipsticks |
SR: My favorite quote from Francois Nars is "Don't be so serious, it's only makeup." I think that women are often all too serious when it comes to trends that are outside of their comfort zone--get out there try the trends and see what suits you!
JB: For the colder months that are fast approaching, what can we do to save our skin?
SR: Water, water, water. Try anything from the Hydra Life line by Dior, it's a drink of water for skin without an oily residue.
JB: What are 3 essentials that you think every girl should have in her makeup bag?
SR: Top 3 must haves...oh so hard! First off, pressed powder with a clean, light finish that is ideal for on-the-go touch-ups. Secondly, Nars' pure matte lipstick in Visuvio. It's a great shade for fall and extremely long wearing. Lastly, the Nars' multiple stick for eyes, cheeks, and lips--you simply can't go without it.
