We know, right now you're probably thinking, "A day celebrating parking spaces? Lame!" Hardly. What's neat about PARK(ing) Day is that this worldwide event encourages participants to reclaim the parking lot and bring back paradise. How awesome is that?

Now in its fourth year in the Twin Cities, PARK(ing) Day 2010 involves people taking over metered parking spaces throughout the city and creating installations open to anyone. Past spots have been converted into pop up galleries, mini concert venues, and grassy patios where friends can play games and grill. The main goal of the day is for people to re-examine urban design, share ideas and skills, and to shed light on the need for different types of public spaces within the community.

PARK(ing) Day 2010 will last all day on Friday (or until the quarters for the meters run out). You can learn more about the event at the official website, parkingdaytwincities.tumblr.com or check out the Twin Cities Flikr stream for pics of last year's event.
