Monday movie screenings on the patio at Sweeney's Saloon continue tonight with Super Troopers.
So if you are in the mood for a couple hours of law enforcement
silliness, cheap beer, and even cheaper wings, this is your ticket.
The film begins at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.), in the back of Sweeney's Saloon on their prized patio. Moviegoers and beer drinkers alike will be treated to an evening of watching Vermont state troopers Thorny, Rabbit, Mac, Farva, and Foster as they try to impress and outwit local officers. By abandoning their usual prankster ways for an approach that's more by the book, slapstick comedy and absurdity ensue.
While under a crisp fall sky, the evening should be one of laughs--whether it is laughing with or at the movie. A cult classic for many comedy fans, in 2001 Super Troopers also won the Audience Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival. Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar and written by the Broken Lizard guys, it is no surprise that after such success there would be a sequel. The release date has yet to be determined, but rumor has it that it is not a prequel, and should be out sometime in 2011.
Sweeney's Saloon is located on Dale Street in St. Paul, and features daily happy hours, including $5 off pitchers of domestic beer, $.60 wings and $3 baskets of fries every night from 9 p.m. to close, along with half-price bottles of wine on Mondays.
