|Installation by Dr. Thomas O. Haakenson|
It's not every day that an institution's staff puts their own work on display at the beginning of the year, but the faculty at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design are presenting their current works in the annual faculty exhibition for the public and students to view.
The opening reception for "Undercurrents: MCAD Faculty Exhibition" is this Friday in the main gallery from 6 to 8 p.m., and will feature staff from the design, fine arts, media arts, liberal arts, and Bachelor of Science programs. From paintings to mixed media to installation pieces, the collection will offer up varied insight into the educators at the core of MCAD.
By revealing their ideas and current projects for the next month, the MCAD faculty open up the conversation and communicate their own creative techniques and approach to teaching. In turn, students can find inspiration in works, and keep the conversation going through their own artistry and creativity during the school year.
The evening also includes a "Contact Improvisation Jam" presentation by Neal Jahren in the new sculpture garden at MCAD at 6:45 p.m. And while you're there, you can swing by the Concourse Gallery to check out the "Burren Study Abroad Program Exhibition
," where students who've recently returned from an exchange semester at the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Ireland are showing the fruits of their overseas labor.
