Commedia Beauregard's 'Louvre It or Leave It Plays' translates pieces of art into theater

The art of translation is a complex and worthwhile endeavor. Twin Cities based theater company Commedia Beauregard specializes in exactly that: the art of translation when it comes to, well, art.
Every Thursday in October the Master Works Series and Commedia Beauregard will present translated art productions by using the play format to interpret museum collections. First up they will be translating the eclectic mix of artwork from the Louvre It or Leave It Museum.
The Louvre It or Leave It Museum is a small, eccentric gathering place of art in the middle of Minneapolis's skyway system. Home to an extremely diverse collection ranging from primitive, to modern, to humorous art, Commedia Beauregard will shed light on the ideas and meanings behind select pieces tomorrow evening at Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater.
Just like language translation, translating art can open up opportunities for deeper insight and understanding by exploring work through new mediums, such as live performance. And thankfully, the audience won't have to do the translating tomorrow night. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the feeling of not being lost in translation.
In the Louvre It or Leave It Plays, one sculpture, two photographs, and three paintings by contemporary artists will be featured and translated for audience enjoyment, and hopefully, enlightenment. The Thursday night show begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are $15 ($12 with a Fringe button). Upcoming Master Work Series shows will take place on October 14, 21, and 28.
