Author David Sedaris is no stranger to the State Theatre in Minneapolis. After finishing one of his books he usually hits the road for a reading tour that includes Minnesota in his destinations. Sedaris's popular titles include Me Talk Pretty One Day and Naked, both filled with essays highlighting the vivid details, sarcasm, and bewilderment that fans have come to love. He is once again on tour for his latest publication, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk, A Modest Bestiary, which is a bit of a departure for the award-winning humorist. It is a compilation of short stories "in which animals do things that people do."

Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk features illustrations by children's book author Ian Falconer (of the Olivia series). From NPR:

"Several of Sedaris' tales were inspired by the unbecoming behavior of others. In 'The Sick Rat and the Healthy Rat,' a healthy lab rat belittles her dying neighbor by claiming that he brought the illness on himself with his 'hatefulness and negative energy.'"

Other characters featured in these (still) semi-true tales include a story of forbidden love between a chipmunk and a squirrel, storks as parents, and a turkey and cow who decide to play Secret Santa.

Sedaris returns to the State Theatre's stage tonight at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $42 and can be purchased online or by calling the State Theatre's box office at 612.339.7007.
