Literary Death Match slays words tonight

Sure, readings and other literary events can sometimes be a little stuffy. This is not so for Literary Death Match events. Why are they any different? Well, tonight's literary party involves four local authors who are as talented at performing as they are at writing, some quit-witted celebrity judges, and the whole thing will be held at a bar at the tail end of happy hour. Sounds like a raucous good time.

Happy hour kicks off the event, and runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. LTM watchers are invited to get there early. At 8:15 p.m. the competition begins. Authors will perform their best work in 7 minutes or less; winners head on to the next round. Reading this evening will be Maggie Ryan Sandford, RockStar Storyteller Curt Lund, The Cigar-Maker author Mark McGinty, and Dessa from hip-hop collective, Doomtree. Each will be judged by a panel of chatty judges including haiku artist Brian Beatty, journalist (and City Pages alum) Molly Priesmeyer, and the always hilarious Joseph Scrimshaw.

The event will be hosted by LDM founder Todd Zuniga and pub quiz master Rob Callahan. Tickets are $6 presale, or $10 at the door ($5 for students with I.D.). Doors open at 7 p.m. (though you can obviously show up earlier). Clubhouse Jager is located at 923 Washington Avenue North in the Loop area of Minneapolis.
