Orchestra Hall goes 'Psycho'

Those stabbing violin notes that play during the famous shower scene of Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Psycho were kind of an accident. Hitchcock didn't want any music to play during that gruesome moment, but the movie's composer, Bernard Herrmann, composed something anyway and Hitchcock immediately changed his mind on the matter.

This year marks Psycho's 50th anniversary and the Minnesota Orchestra is tuning up to celebrate the film on a grand scale. As always, their timing is perfect; their concert coincides with Halloween weekend.

On Saturday, October 30, Orchestra Hall will be transformed into a movie theater set to show Psycho on the big screen. Conducted by Sarah Hicks, the orchestra will perform Herrmann's chilling score while the movie's disturbing plot unfolds. The folks at Orchestra Hall have a special dare for the night's audience: "We defy you to keep your eyes open during the shower scene!"
