Sever's Corn Maze and Fall Festival

Sever and Sharon Peterson first heard about field-sized mazes from an agricultural exchange student visiting from England in 1971. Taking note of the hedge mazes popular in Europe for centuries, the Peterson's decided it would be a great idea to follow their lead, but with corn.

Now in their 14th year, Sever's corn maze has become America's largest. This year also marks the Minnesota Vikings' 50th season. To celebrate, Sever's and the Vikings have partnered up. Not only has the maze been carved into the Vikings logo, but every weekend throughout the season they will give away Vikings tickets.

Visitors to the maze receive a map to help navigate through this year's creation, which is shaped like a viking's head. However, the challenge isn't just to wander aimlessly through the maze. This year's special goal is to find six pictures of "Viktor the Viking" and mark on the map where those pictures are. Each correct sheet will be entered into a weekly drawing for Vikings tickets.

There are events for all ages, even a mini-maze made of hay bales for smaller kids. And besides mazes, there is also a corn pool and a pumpkin slinger that launches pumpkins like pebbles from a sling shot. Live music, a petting zoo, giant slide, food, and refreshments are part of the experience as well.

Sever's Corn Maze and Fall Festival is located at 1100 Canterbury Road in Shakopee. The maze is open every Saturday and Sunday through October 31, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (the last ticket is sold at 4:30 p.m.). Tickets are $11 for people age 4 and up; age 3 and under are free.
