13th Avenue Northeast celebrates Black Friday

​It's an ominous sounding name for such a benign day. Thankfully, it only entails shopping. Once again Black Friday welcomes enthusiastic spenders -- and the friends and family members they drag along -- to the stores. While some will be hitting up the malls in search of holiday deals, there are still plenty of opportunities to shop local this Thanksgiving weekend. One such event includes sales on 13th Avenue, where there will be a variety of steals and deals that you won't want to miss.

Special happenings run along 13th Avenue, from University to Marshall in Minneapolis. Practical art lovers (or the friends who need to buy gifts for them) will find 20 percent off of jewelry and 10 percent off of everything else in store at Two 12 Pottery and Gift Gallery (212 13th Avenue Northeast).

Shuga Records (165 13th Ave. NE) will be offering 30 to 50 percent off of second-hand tunes and electronics. Spend $25 and you can choose between a free drink at the 331 or receive $5 towards your next tab at Anchor Fish.

Over at Fried Bologna Vintage (158 13th Ave NE) if you spend $25 you will be able to choose from a $5 gift certificate to the store, a drink at the 331, or $5 towards dining at Anchor Fish and Chips as a thank you. Also pretty neat: Several items in the store are considered "secret" winners. If you purchase one, you will receive other deals to use at a later date.

Other stores participating with sweet shopping include Movables (1228 2nd St. NE) and Spinario (1300 2nd St. NE), both furniture and design stores offering deals throughout the event.
