With the latest version of A Christmas Carol set to open this week, Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling is preparing to head off for his next project: A trip back to Dublin to craft a production of John B. Keane's The Field.

In Ireland, Dowling will work with Brian Dennehy in Keane's award-winning play. The Field is based on the true story of the 1959 murder of Moss Moore, possibly by his neighbor, with whom Moore had a longstanding right-of-way dispute.

Dowling, of course, built his career in his native Ireland, working as the artistic director of the Abbey Theatre and the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin. The Field will open January 13 and run through February at the Olympia Theatre.

Dowling's next directing effort at the Guthrie will be Arsenic and Old Lace, opening in April.
