Minnesota identity and art explored at Intermedia Arts

With all the galleries, exhibits, theaters, museums, and other artsy-fartsy things around town, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize Minnesota is a goldmine for creative talent. It's also not surprising people want to talk about this art community -- what it means when applied to our identity as a state, and how that plays out when the rest of the world is judging us, er, visiting here.
Tomorrow night's talk will pose such questions when Intermedia Arts and the Minneapolis Arts Commission partner up to host an interactive public session titled "Minnesota Identity & the Arts".
Free and open to the public, this event is a chance to really delve into what local art means to you and to our state. Moderated by artist and curator Andy Sturdevant, the evening of will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Intermedia Arts in the Lyn-Lake area of Minneapolis.
Featuring celebrated talents like photographer Wing Young Huie, Adam Levy of the Honeydogs, choreographer Ananya Chatterjea, and MN Original producer Chuck Olsen, the dialogue should be lively and highly engaging.
There will be presentations by each of the guest speakers, plus a panel discussion. There will also plenty of opportunities for the audience to interact and give their two cents on the topics at hand. After the salon-type back and forth, the everyone will have a chance to celebrate and/or mingle even more over refreshments during the reception. Hopefully it will be a fun and stimulating way to wrap your mind around what art actually means to Minnesota.
