You can get a double dose of storyteller Kevin Kling this holiday season -- but if you blink you might miss out.

Kling will present a new show, Scarecrow on Fire, this weekend at the Fitzgerald Theater. Then on Monday he'll present an encore of his popular holiday show, Tales from the Charred Underbelly of the Yule Log on the Wurtele Thrust Stage at the Guthrie Theater.

As the title suggests, Scarecrow on Fire draws from The Wizard of Oz, taking up the story after the end of the original tale. Directed by Theatre Latte Da's Peter Rothstein, the production features Stephen Yoakum and Simone Perrin. For the music, Dan Chouinard leads an ensemble featuring Michelle Kinney and the House of Mercy Band.

The multi-media event also includes footage from the early, silent Oz movies crafted in the years before Judy Garland took her journey over the rainbow. Even the Lollipop Guild gets into the act, with free suckers available to all of the kids.

Kling describes the show as a journey to examine the lost stories of OZ, and looking especially at tales of brains, courage and heart. The actor takes on the role of the Scarecrow as the storyteller, not a surprise considering that issues of the "brain" have been foremost in Kling's writing and performing since his motorcycle accident nearly a decade ago.

There are only three performances: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Visit Kevin Kling's website for a special discount code.

On Monday, December 6, Kling brings back his popular one-man recollection of the holidays with Tales from the Charred Underbelly of the Yule Log. Here, the Osseo native explores the idiosyncratic quirks of his family, and the Minnesota soul in general. Perrin, Chouinard and the Brass Messengers will also be part of the Guthrie evening. (Kling will also sign copies of both of his books following the performance.) The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
