'Robin Hood' and 'The 39 Steps' add shows to their schedule

It's not all doom and gloom when it comes to the economy. First, Theatre Latte Da extended its run of Evita even before the first chorus of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" was sung. Now, two other productions have announced additional performances. Over at the Guthrie Theater, the recently opened 39 Steps will have a trio of added matinee performances, while the Children's Theater Company has added another week to its run of Robin Hood.

As I wrote this week, The 39 Steps is a pure delight and worth your time -- especially for the chance to watch four talented performers at the top of their respective games.

Greg Banks' Robin Hood proved to be more problematic. All of the elements were there, from a moodier take on the familiar adventures to the rubber-jointed Dean Holt in the lead role, but it didn't come together as well as I had hoped. But obviously it has connected with audiences, as the show will now close December 12 after playing an additional 10 performances.

Of course, all of this comes as the theater community gears up for the always busy (and economically vital) holiday season, so for all the other productions out there, there's now a bit more competition to fill those seats.
