'Trekkies' and 'Six Days in Roswell' create an out of this world double-feature

Trekkies are a dedicated group of people, often taking their love of Star Trek out of the realm of a hobby and turning it into a full-time obsession. Some have even gone as far as to have their ears surgically "Spocked."

A stellar double-feature of documentaries Trekkies and Six Days In Roswell screening at Pepito's Parkway movie theater offers glimpses into the lives of these other-worldly people. See just how serious the Star Trek fandom really is, as well as how obsessed people are with the alleged 1947 alien crash-landing in Roswell, New Mexico.

In the film Trekkies, "Star Trek actress Denise Crosby provides an affectionate and humorous look at some of these people, who demonstrate how Star Trek has affected and even shaped their lives." The film interviews people attending conventions, but also follows the die-hard fans into their personal lives as well as to their places of business. A dentist, for example, allows the camera crew a peak inside his Star Trek-themed dentist office.

In 1997, local actor Rich Kronfeld traveled to Roswell, New Mexico and fully emersed himself in the we-are-not-alone culture while filming the documentary Six Days In Roswell. This film takes place during the 50th anniversary festival of the famous, alleged alien spaceship crash. From the movie's description: "While [Kronfeld] doesn't get abducted in the course of this documentary, he does get a good look at the pop-culture phenomenon that Roswell has become, along with all the ways people have found to make a buck off the whole thing." He even went as far as to get a special flying saucer-shaped hair cut.
