Pillsbury House announces three shows for 2011 main stage

​Coming off a string of well-received 2010 shows, Minneapolis's Pillsbury House Theatre has announced its main stage season for the next year. The three shows feature area premieres and recent work by award-winning playwrights. Along with these productions, the company will feature a number of special projects, late-evening programs, and community outreach events throughout the year.

The first production of 2011, Broke-ology, takes their popular pay-what-you-can nights to the logical extreme: the entire run of the Nathan Jackson play will follow the format. James A. Williams directs the show, which explores the effect growing up in poverty has on larger dreams. It runs from March 11 to April 10.

In May, the company returns to the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie for In the Red and Brown Water, directed by Obie Award winner Marion McClinton. The production will be the area premiere of the play by Alvin McCraney, and is part of a trilogy of works (the later pieces will be featured in the 2012 season at Pillsbury House). The show runs May 6 through 28.

Co-artistic director Noël Raymond directs the final show in the main stage season. The Pride, by Alexi Kaye Campbell, runs from September 16 to October 16. The play explores changes in sexuality in America, examining various relationships between characters spanning from 1958 to 2008.

The 2011 season also features a number of other programs, including the Chicago Avenue Project in the spring and fall, Naked Stages, and the Late Nite Series.
