The Twin-Cities area designer and Theatre Pro Rata company member will attempt to become a star of afternoon TV this week when she steps onto the stage of Jeopardy!
Carlis will appear for sure on this afternoon's (Monday's) show, which is broadcast at 4:30 p.m. on KARE 11. More appearances will follow if she wins. (Though the show was taped in September, Carlis can't divulge how she fared on the program.)
Carlis, who described the experience as "intense," began her journey last March when she took the long-running show's online quiz. That was followed in May by an in-person audition in Chicago and, finally, the call to appear in August. As it happened, Carlis was working on the design for the Yellow Tree Theatre, finishing a technical rehearsal on a Sunday evening and flying out to sunny Los Angeles the next morning.
No matter how the "week" on Jeopardy goes, Carlis will be working this winter. She is set to design Snow Bound! (for Ecclectic Edge) and Dido, Queen of Carthage for Theatre Pro Rata in the coming months.
We'll update Carlis' appearance after it airs.
UPDATE: Well, no victory for Carlis, but she did enjoy the entire experience. She ended up third with $1,050 after missing the Final Jeopardy question. "Of course I would have like to win, but I am happy that I didn't end up in negative money and miss Final Jeopardy or get an 'ooh"' from Alex, where a contestant is super close to a correct answer but not quite," she said Monday evening after the show was broadcast.
Even her answer to the final question (the correct response was W. Somerset Maugham) has gained attention. "The name I wrote for Final Jeopardy, John Green, is the name of a young adult author I really like. I follow John on Twitter and he gave me a shoutout this afternoon!"
