The Loring Theater in days of yore
The Music Box Theatre, perhaps best known as the home of Triple Espresso, has undergone quite a few changes in the past year. In addition to hosting the unending (yet ending soon) comedy theater production, the venue has also thrown some interesting concerts and parties, from film noir screenings to a haunted basement tour to the Blue Thursdays Music Series. Soon, they will undergo another change; the theater will be taking back its old moniker, the Loring Theater.

According to Producing Artistic Director Steve Barberio, the name change is in celebration of the 90-year-old theater. "The opportunity to program the venue as a variety house has brought this place back to life with jazz, theater, dance and comedy," he states. "The renaming of the theater is an apt birthday present for this Minneapolis landmark."

The Loring Theater originally opened in 1920 as a vaudeville and silent film venue. The original marquee sign, which has been resting in the old basement for decades, is set to be restored and added to the building's facade.

The upcoming lineup for the newly-renamed theater appears to be eclectic, ranging from performances by indie rock trio Zoo Animal to New York visual artist Billy the Artist to Chinese folk artist Zhao Jiazhen.
