Music Box Theatre to change name back to Loring Theater

According to Producing Artistic Director Steve Barberio, the name change is in celebration of the 90-year-old theater. "The opportunity to program the venue as a variety house has brought this place back to life with jazz, theater, dance and comedy," he states. "The renaming of the theater is an apt birthday present for this Minneapolis landmark."
The Loring Theater originally opened in 1920 as a vaudeville and silent film venue. The original marquee sign, which has been resting in the old basement for decades, is set to be restored and added to the building's facade.
The upcoming lineup for the newly-renamed theater appears to be eclectic, ranging from performances by indie rock trio Zoo Animal to New York visual artist Billy the Artist to Chinese folk artist Zhao Jiazhen.
