Readers of zines and those interested in radical political theory and movements lost an important social space and resource when Arise! Bookstore closed its doors last year. Fortunately, people interested in obscure and independently published books on history, politics, and arts will have a new space to shop, share ideas, and mingle when Boneshaker Books opens this Saturday in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis.

The store, located adjacent to the 2nd Moon coffee shop, is completely volunteer-run. Its January opening is the result of a $20,000 fundraising startup campaign. Boneshaker plans to feature a large collection of zines in addition to sections on labor history, environmentalism, children's reading, and fiction.

One nifty perk the store is offering is a bike delivery service. For those who order online or over the phone, someone will bike their order to your door for free.

Boneshaker Books (2002 23rd Ave. S., Minneapolis; 612.871.7110) will open  Saturday, January 15, at 11 a.m. A reception will be held later in the evening at 7 p.m. For more info on the store, visit www.boneshakerbooks.com.
