Public Art St. Paul hosts Wing Young Huie's University Avenue Project Showcase

Categories: Art
In May 2010, photographer Wing Young Huie transformed six miles of University Avenue into an art gallery, filling 80 storefronts with 250 of photos of people who live in the neighborhoods along the way. Additionally, 450 of his images were projected nightly onto a giant outdoor movie screen, accompanied by a locally-made soundtrack in which 60 different musicians were highlighted. Huie's work is multidimensional, and always has the sense that he is working to bring people in the community together.

With the help of Public Art St. Paul, Huie's "University Avenue Project" is culminating in an exciting showcase this Sunday at the Dancers Studio in which archival photos from the exhibit will be on display. Guests will be able to meet the artist and participate in a silent auction to purchase photos from the show. There will also be performances throughout the day by a few of the local musicians who were featured on the project's soundtrack including David Hanners, Heatherlyn, Brain Laidlaw, Dusty Porch Sisters, and Abdellah Ouchagar.

The University Avenue Project Showcase takes place from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 27 at the Dancers Studio, located at 1508 University Avenue West in St. Paul. Read more about The University Project and take a look at more of Wing Young Huie's work online.
