Bruce Holland Rogers's Dinosaur is a short story that begins at the point in a small boy's life when he must let go of his dream of being a dinosaur. He goes on to examine what he thinks makes an adult: a job, marriage, raising a family. But as time moves on he gets older and forgetful. Eventually, he forgets everything except that he once wanted to be a dinosaur.

"You Are Not A Dinosaur" is the newest art exhibition at the Vine Arts Center, and was inspired by Rogers's story. The gallery's webpage states, "Our show explores the concessions one makes to their imagination and heart in order to obtain what society tells us is responsible adulthood."

Though the story presents a conventional idea of what makes a responsible adult, the photographers "didn't want to produce a verdict on whether that's confining, or noble," says photographer Tim White in an interview with A Photo Assistant. "We simply wanted to explore the theme."

The exhibition is self-curated by seven featured photographers, Andrea Cole, Mike Dvorak, Osama Esid, Dan Marshall, Steve Ozone, Paula Warn, and Tim White. All have varied photographic styles, from documentary, to commercial, to fine-art.

In addition to the photos on display, Vine Arts Center will host other events around the exhibition, including a screening of the film Grave of the Fireflies at 7 p.m. February 19. On February 25, accordion and musical saw duo Dreamland Faces will perform, and on March 5 from 2 to 6 p.m., photographer Osama Esid will teach a workshop on alternative photo processes.

"You Are Not A Dinosaur" is a free exhibit and will be on display until March 17 at the Vine Arts Center, located at 2637 27th Avenue South in Minneapolis. The gallery is open Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
