The Irish Music & Dance Association, a nonprofit organization that promotes the arts and related cultural traditions of Ireland, is hosting its 30th-annual celebration on Sunday, March 13 at the Day of Irish Dance, as well as at its Irish Celebration on March 17. Along with Celtic vendors and Irish cuisine, the Landmark Center will be filled with multiple performances throughout each day.
Members from O'Shea Irish Dance, Northstar Irish Dancers, and other troupes will be performing traditional dances. If their moves inspire you, step into the Weyerhaeuser Lobby for social dancing set to the music of local four-piece ensemble Barra. If dancing isn't your thing, there will be theatrical readings, such as A Couple of Blackguards featuring actors Clyde Lund and Julian Bailey from the History Theatre playing Frank and Malachy McCourt; and The Táin Abridged: An Expedited Epic presented by Patio Furniture, a group of Macalester theater students and alumni.
In addition to Irish music and dancing, both celebrations will include vendors, exhibitors, and Irish cuisine. After all, learning a traditional reel and jig will certainly work up your appetite.
Tickets for IMDA's Day of Irish Dance on Sunday, March 13 and Irish Celebration on March 17 are $6 for adults, $4 for kids 5 to 12, and may be purchased at the door at Landmark Center. Thursday's events will also include children's activities. For a comprehensive schedule of events or to inquire about group discounts, visit the IMDA's website.
