Matthew Fitzke's solo show 'ONE' at Maude Salon

I Wanna Be Adored

​Matthew Fitzke's paintings are reminiscent of the seductive ladies who writhe on the movie screen during the opening credits of a James Bond flick. His pieces often feature subjects in dark settings, the characters pop off the canvas as a result of highlights on the face, hair, or body; a style which could be compared to edgier comic book illustrations such as the work of Frank Miller.

A few of Fitzke's paintings are closeups of people's faces or profiles, but many focus on women's bodies in sexy poses, or couples caught in the middle of a sweaty embrace. It's a sultry show perfect for the beginning days of summer.

In collaboration with Altered Esthetics, Fitzke's first solo show, titled "ONE," will feature 15 of his pieces. Though his pieces have been included in other local group shows and charity auctions, many of the works featured in this exhibition are new. Maude Salon in northeast Minneapolis is hosting the show, which begins this Saturday, May 14 with an opening reception featuring hors d'oeuvres and live music by Timothy Howe from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
