Be on the lookout for this man
If you're familiar with the downtown Minneapolis bar scene, then you'll probably recognize L.A. Nik. He's easy to spot, as he often wears all black, including his nail polish, and looks like a rock star (because he is--he worked as a drummer in various L.A. rock bands in the '80s). His favorite haunts include the Loring Kitchen and Bar (he lives upstairs), Hell's Kitchen, Prohibition, and the Kitty Cat Klub.

Nik, who works as a party and concert promoter in addition to running a media booth service out of Los Angeles and Las Vegas, recently made an announcement that he would become part of an unusual contest. He'll be awarding $1,000 to the person who snaps the best candid photograph of the local personality while out and about. Are you ready to play a live-action game of Where's Waldo?

The contest, which playfully aims to encourage more folks to partake in downtown nightlife, runs through November. Anyone over 18 is encouraged to participate. Once you've spotted and snapped L.A. Nik in his natural environment, you can enter to win by uploading your photo to his website, www.rockinthistown.com. Images will be judged by a panel of local celebrities, who will be announced at a later date.

He has been  in St Paul Hotel with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and I seen him in the Minneapolis Westin  bar with Vince Neil so if he's not in a band he sure knows a lot of rock stars. Didn't he have Guns n Roses guy play one of his parties in Minneapolis?

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

"looks like a rock star (because he is--he worked as a drummer in various L.A. rock bands in the '80s)"

Name me ONE L.A. rock band that this tool was in.  Can you?  No.  They were no-named bands that didn't make a dent on the scene of the 80's rock scene.  Was L.A. Nik drumming in Motley Crue?  Poison?  Whitesnake?  Guns N' Roses?  Nope.

Not even C-level bands like Tigertailz, Bang Tango, Tuff, Shotgun Messiah, Southgang and so on.  How bad can you be where you weren't even good enough to make it in bands like this (who weren't good themselves)?

This should be revised to "Snap a pic of L.A. Nik (an almost-wannabe from the 80s) and win $1,000 --- This will be the highlight of his life, which is why he's stuck in Minneapolis and not out in L.A. still rockin'!

Why bother feeding this guy's ego?  Did you know he lives off the government?  His combined income between all of his ventures is less than $28,000 per year.  All of his former friends have been scammed for money through his various failed "ventures" and ideas that he's come up with.  How does he pay his rent?  Must have a stripper girlfriend or something or sell something he shouldn't be selling.  I have no idea how he's going to think about paying anybody $1,000 just to take pictures of him when there are better people to waste a photograph on.  Oh well, your loss.

L.A. Nik is a complete tool.  I've been to two of his "favorite people parties".  The first one I went to because I was friends with the girlfriend of one of the band members that were playing, so we saw a lot of their shows.  They played great as they always did, the crowd and the establishment loved them.

Apparently more people were supposed to be present so Nik was feeling a bit agitated, likely getting hassled by the bar as their liquor sales were low.  What did Nik end up doing?  He took it out on the band, treated them like shit, and they didn't even get paid for playing.

No one likes this clown, as a comedian of sorts said about him at one of his past parties, "He should just go back to L.A., where everyone can just call him Nik."

You people are idiots. Nik was a tour drummer, and for nearly every band you listed. You won't find his name in their line ups, but his friends run very deep. He's mid 40's and retired - he came here with a movie booth in the mall of america which is now in Las Vegas.

Its always funny to watch people try to hurt someone who's life they wish they had.   The music industry doesn't support his role or lifestyle anymore, but people are here to tell the stories.

Hmmm this is unfortunate.  Nik has never taken anything out on a band and the only time, they've never gotten paid was when they agreed to do it for charity, such as the last show at Fine Line. He's a genuine nice guy and loves people. Given it was a breast cancer drive, more people should have come by, but none-the-less a check was given to the founder of Treasured Chests who was in tears from the "just in time" financial relief, that show delivered.  And yes, the bands played for free, L.A. Nik also worked for free.

L.A. Nik has never been hassled by a bar because they've always grossed revenue.  I've also never seen him agitated from low turnout - only hopeful for the bands to have a good turnout and gain followers.  There will always be "less than tactful" comments from those that over analyze.  In the end, there's been some good things done for local artists, establishments, and the city in general.

The photo contest is another way to give back.  It would be great if others worked as hard to turn popularity into a positive thing.

Hey Nik is a clown! I ve known Nik for 20 plus years and he would give you his last dollar if you needed it. He donated his time to help raise money for charities and bring some pretty outstanding talent as well as some kick-ass parties to your area. You are entitled too your opinion, Have you ever sat and talked too Nik? You may find that he's a pretty intelligent and interesting person. Nik, Never stop being who you are, cuz I know how awesome you are....and for the hater(s).....well you know. Your friend, Scott F. in Fla
