Home is often our sanctuary from the outside world, a place to get away from it all and feel safe. But what home means to one person can be vastly different to another; it can mean so much more than establishing a sense of place in the world. As artist J-me writes on the Altered Esthetics' blog, "the concept of 'home' is so quietly powerful."

Over 50 artists have come together to help explore this theme, as well as what it means to be searching for a home, or not have one at all, in the upcoming Altered Esthetics group show, "Home."

This exhibition will include a video installation, photography, paintings, screen prints, and etchings. Shuji Usui is a featured artist for the show; his oil painting and charcoal drawings are the result of his fascination with the culture of celebrity and the comfort of cheap goods.

"Home" will be on display at Altered Esthetics beginning with an opening reception on Friday, September 2 from 7 to 10 p.m., where musician Greg Brosofske will perform. There will also be an artists' discussion on Saturday, September 17 beginning at 1 p.m. The show runs through the end of September.
