Minneapolis ranked 5th best city for recent college graduates

| College grads: Come to Minnesota for the job market, stay for the loopy politicians and the chicken. |
The list, which factors in average apartment rent, entry-level job opportunities, and census data, ranks Minneapolis fifth in the country, besting San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia.
In a post-recession world increasingly unfriendly to the recently graduated, the websites Apartments.com and CareerRookie.com collaborate each year to put the ranking together. They polled local employers to see how many entry-level hires they plan to make in the near future and throw in the average cost of a one-bedroom apartment. They also factor in the latest census data to find out how many people in their early 20s call the area home.
Apartments.com data says an average one-bedroom runs $941 a month, while jobs requiring less than a year of experience are here for the taking.
"You guys have a lot of huge Fortune 500 corporations," says spokeswoman Tammy Kotula. "A lot of companies said they planned to hire recent grads."
Minneapolis was bested by Hartford-New Haven, Cleveland, Boston, and Denver in the rankings. You can read the whole list here.
The list failed to factor in pushover Scandinavian roommates, bike-friendliness, and the fact that Minneapolis is teeming with hipsters (the kind who will ask you questions about yourself and be genuinely interested in the answer).
But no matter. Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled graduates yearning to work for practically free. We'll take 'em.
