'Vintage Did It First' was the message that Blacklist Vintage owners Vanessa Messersmith and Jennifer Mumm wanted party-goers to take home with them on Tuesday night. The evening's shindig featured 16 looks straight from New York's 2011 fall catwalks. Both Mumm and Messersmith, who also styled the event, were inspired by this season's '40s- and '60s-influenced looks. "There are always so many vintage-inspired pieces on the runway," reports Mumm. "So we want to offer options where people can keep up with the trends, but not have to spend thousands of dollars."

In-store fashions were accompanied by a slideshow of images from New York's Fashion Week. Bethany Brihn, a freelance hair and make-up artist who attended the celebration, pointed out that Blacklist Vintage made a strong connection between this year's couture from the runways in New York and vintage pieces available for purchase in the shop. "I saw the projected visuals, and next to it the models are wearing what is actually in stock and available right here in Minnesota. It makes the fashion more accessible to the average person."

Artist and model Angela Kuyper walked in her first runway show at the event. When asked about the Minnesota fashion scene, her eyes lit up with excitement. "The scene is growing," she says. "More and more people are interested, and not so afraid of fashion. There are so many shops locally where you can get creative with your dress and not have to feel so self conscious."
