Last week, top models and celebrities walked the catwalk at New York Fashion Week's Red
Dress Collection to show their support for women's heart health. Christie Brinkley, Rebecca Romijn, Jenna Elfman, and Minka Kelly were just a few who participated. This year, CW Twin Cities host Carly Aplin decided that Minnesota should have its own version of the popular event.

"The red dress event at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is so well-received, and I thought
that this type of event would be perfect for Minneapolis," Aplin says. "We have the
talent, we have the designers, and we have great women who can represent the cause
well."

Aplin worked with MNfashion to select top designers and local celebrities to participate
in the Red Dress Collection as part of Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week. Each designer is creating a custom red dress for their model to walk the runway in.

Landyn Hutchinson, lifestyle expert and wife of Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson, says
that she looks forward to getting "glammed up" to model, and to help raise awareness
about heart disease.

"I thought that Red Dress Collection would be such a fun event to be involved in, and I was very flattered to be asked to model for it," Hutchinson says. "I'm in a wonderful position where I am able to give back and I'm proud to support such a great cause."

Working with designer Emma Berg was fun for Hutchinson, as it pushed her to be open to something different than what she would typically wear. When the women first met to discuss the dress that Emma was making, they examined photos of her at different events from the past 10 years and noticed a pattern.

"I realized that I wear a lot of strapless and one-shoulder dresses!" Hutchinson says with a laugh. "Emma is edgy and fun, and I'm really excited to 'step outside of my box' and wear something different. Most of her designs tend to be three dimensional and architectural so it will be fun to see what she comes up with."

Kaela Humphries, a medical sales representative and model who will also walk in the show, says wants to help spread awareness that heart disease is increasing in young women.

"I work in the healthcare industry and I understand how important it is to educate people on health issues," she says. "As a woman, it's really great to be part of an event that educates women on heart disease."

Humphries, who has been modeling for the past four years, says that working with designer Danielle Everine has been a great experience.

"I love Danielle's clothing and I loved her on Project Runway," she says. "Her clothes are light and whimsical, but sexy at the same time. I wanted to work with her because I don't think a lot of designers have experience designing for plus-size models. I'm curvy, so that can be an interesting challenge. I think she's taking it full stride and she's excited to be challenged."

In addition to the runway show, Red Dress Collection will feature a silent auction with
jewelry, makeup, artwork, fitness, and sports packages, among other items. Each auction package will include a sketch from the participating designers of the red dress that they created for the event. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the University of Minnesota Physicians Heart: Women's Heart Program.

"Red Dress Collection is an amazing mix of fashion and fundraising," Aplin says. "We hope to educate people about heart disease and have fun at the same time. We want people to come and enjoy the runway show and bid on silent auction items and socialize. It's a fabulous event for a fabulous cause."

"I can't think of a better way for people to spend a night out having fun and giving back to an organization that supports a disease that might affect you or someone in your family," says Humphries. "It's going to be a lot of fun, and it's helping a really important cause."

"Red Dress Collection is about creating awareness and you couldn't find a better place to do this event," Aplin says. "I've been amazed by the support in the Twin Cities and I'm so excited to see how everything comes together."

Designers include Christopher Straub, Danielle Everine, Laura Fulk, Emma Berg, Maritza Ramirez, Max Lohrbach, Adrienne Yancy, Sarah Holm, Rachel Blomgren, Thom Navarro and Tim Navarro, and models include Kaela Humphries, Laura Schara, Robyne Robinson, Allison Kaplan, Jennifer Kline, Landyn Hutchinson, Ann Carroll, Amy James, Sandy Simmons, Alexus Koch, and Dr. Jennifer Dankle.
