What to Where: Primp, Grand Ole Day, Grand Ole Creamery

For our second edition of What to Where we're crossing the river into St. Paul for Grand Old Day. While this is great place to rock a new style, it's not easy making waves in a sea of 300,000 people. So, we headed  to Primp for inspiration.

Located on the corner of Selby and Dale, this boutique is a fashionista's dream come true. With all the color blocking, neon, chiffon, and more we couldn't help but do a little shopping for ourselves. Thankfully, at Primp you can stock up on some high-end goods without Rick rolling your bank account. Also, the light and airy fabrics are perfect for the hot and humid Minnesota summers. Our favorite thing about Primp? They're dog friendly! Be sure to ask one of the talented associates for a puppy treat.

Now that you're turning heads, get down to Grand Avenue by 10 a.m. so that the Grand Old Day paraders can catch your new look. Then stay for the people watching and the seven stages of live music. If you were born to dance, then it's highly recommended that you check out Adam Levy's all-star cover band Hookers & Blow playing from 3 to 5 p.m. on Billy's stage.

Walking up and down the street will leave you hungry and ready for a treat. Make sure to stop by the Grand Ole Creamery for their famous ice cream and pizza. This family-owned gem has celebrated their anniversary each Grand Old Day since 1984. Owners Dawn and Gary Huffman may be the sweetest people we've ever met, not to mention the busiest.

This little shop has a line out the door every day -- even when it's rainy. Stop in to say "Hi," and tell 'em we sent ya. Who knows, you may even run into Joe Mauer!

There is no way that these two gals ate any of that ice cream.  Just sayin'.

Oh I'm a witness that they did, as well as the pizza. :)

Yea! Where is the hard-hitting journalism dealing with the my substantive issues of summer dresses and ice cream?

Why this shameless promotion of an establishment that is not even on Grand Avenue? It's nice to know that you don't think this place is overpriced. Those who earn a living wage and live in the old Rondo neighborhood may beg to disagree. I suggest you travel west on Selby or Marshall from Dale and see how many of these people can afford to shop at Primp. Perhaps then you would write stories that may have a little more substance.

Actually, most Primp's merchandise falls within the $20-$50 range. That puts the shop at a similar price-point to stores Old Navy or Target. That's pretty affordable, no?
