Bill Murray Mobile Dance Party: Will it feature Bill Murray?

Bill Murray -- legendary SNL alum, indie-film darling, voice of a lasagna-addicted cartoon cat -- may have an appointment in Minneapolis tomorrow, as he's on a mythical party-crashing tour that has, through the power of the internet, turned awesomely real.

Our story begins on July 9, when SuperOfficialNews.com dubiously announced that the Wes Anderson favorite intended to launch a "party crashing tour starting in August." The "super official" story claimed that Murray -- who's known for appearing at hipster parties in Brooklyn and then disappearing into the night after rocking everybody with his melancholy, pockmarked visage and charming charisma -- wanted an excuse "to take a vacation around the United States. He's hoping that if he shows up to your party with a bottle of wine or vegetable tray, you will be able to make the proper accommodations for him."

The site included Murray's travel itinerary, featuring a party nearly every day in cities in Arizona, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Indiana, North Carolina, and on until mid September. "Any house or location interested," read the itinerary, must have a sheet or banner attached... [and say] in big bold letters, 'BILL MURRAY CAN CRASH HERE.' This will let Mr. Murray know he is welcome." The itinerary includes a phone number for more information but, funnily enough, the number (dubbed the "24-Hour Bill Murray Party Crashing Tour Hotline") reaches only the Westboro Baptist Church.

The story was obviously fake. However, it became an internet sensation as one of those viral, trending meme deals. Inspired, and maybe just looking for a reason to party, planners around the U.S. went to work. And guess what? Old Bill himself showed up to the very first party in Arizona. Photos from the fiesta -- surely there were thousands, all heavily Facebooked, tweeted, pinned, and Instagrammed -- show Murray entwined with jubilant party-goers, a myth made real. [Editor's note: The Arizona's pics were actually part of the hoax.]

Tomorrow may bring Murray to our lovely Midwestern metropolis. It says so right there on the itinerary: "Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 14." Let the Bill Murray magic continue!

Are the pieces in place? You bet they are. Local party organizers Tipsy Bike have planned a "BILL MURRAY MOBILE DANCE PARTY," on Tuesday, August 14 at 6 p.m. to begin at Gold Medal Park. Because this is Minneapolis, the number one bicycling city in America, bikes must be involved. The party will be a pedaled pub tour of Minneapolis, with an afterparty, according to Tipsy Bike organizers, "at a secret location with live DJs and everything!" The party center is the Tipsy Bike itself, a veritable mobile party machine that can project movies, play music, shoot out beat-synced lasers, and do karaoke.

Don't tell Murray, but event organizer tk doesn't much care if the man himself crashes the shindig. "It's all an amusing circumstance, really. As far as I'm concerned, it's just an excuse to have a party. Whether Bill Murray shows up is beside the point," he says. But does he really expect Murray to show? He wouldn't rank that impossible, but he confirms it'll be a "kick-ass party" either way. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in their best Bill Murray costumes, so expect to see a few Team Zissou jumpsuits, a Ghostbuster get-up or three, and at least one Garfield.

Bill Murray, it sounds like Minneapolis is ready for you with a party better than all the rest. The question now is, who's going to lend Mr. Murray a bike? Calm down, everybody. He only needs one (and it probably shouldn't be a fixie).

Bill Murray is the greatest.  We should have a Bill Murray holiday every year to thank him for Caddyshack and Ghostbusters.
