Red Dress Collection 2013 comes to the Graves
In 2003, nineteen designers presented their take on the red dress for New York Fashion Week in an effort to raise awareness for women's heart disease. A decade later, Red Dress Collection fashion shows have spread across the country to rave reviews.
After attending the event at New York Fashion Week, CW Twin Cities personality Carly Aplin wanted to bring the magic evening of fashion for a cause back home. Minnesota's first Red Dress Collection kicked off last year with a bang. The evening was produced by MNfashion and Aplin, who hosted the star-studded evening. The highly successful celebration benefited the American Heart Association while raising awareness for the number-one killer of women: heart disease.
Minnesota's inaugural Red Dress Collection included nine designers. For the 2013 event, they've expanded the lineup to a whopping 15: Christopher Straub, Max Lohrbach, Rachel Blomgren, Samantha Rei, Caroline Hayden, Emma Berg, Geroge Moskal, Richard Beckel, Laura Fulk, Lindsey Hopkins, Marissa Bridges, Tim Navarro, Thom Navarro, Adrienne Yancy, and the student designer winner of the Go Red Fashion Show.
The show owes part of its success to being one of the rare times that celebrities strut their stuff down the catwalk, rather than watching the action from the sidelines. This year, Kendal and Kylie Jenner, Kelly Osbourne, Gabby Douglas, and others walked in New York Fashion Week's version of the benefit.
Minnesota has its own local talent gracing the runway as well. This year's models include KDWB's Falen Bonsett, WCCO's Amelia Santaniello, Mpls.St.Paul Magazine's Allison Kaplan, Twin Cities Live reporter Emily Engberg, KS95's Desiree 'Dez' Gravelle, Fox 9's Alix Kendall, KARE 11's Rena Sarigianopolous, Miss Minnesota International Krista Wanous, NBC News reporter Janel Klein, and City Pages' fashion writer Nicole Crosbie.
The action continues off the runway at the Graves, too. Guests will have the chance to bid on great prize packages during the event's silent auction for the American Heart Association. Each package includes an original sketch of one of the gowns seen on the catwalk that night, along with other goodies from MAC, 501FIT, local spas, and more.
As part of Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week, tickets for the Red Dress Collection have being going fast. VIP tickets have sold out, but you can still get regular seating and standing room admission for the event here.
