The Harty Boys (Joshua English Scrimshaw and Levi Weinhagen) find terror at the Mall of America.
The Harty Boys, the spooftastic creation of Joshua English Scrimshaw and Levi Weinhagen, take on a new holiday with their Halloween-themed Mystery of the Mall of America of Death! this month at the Bryant-Lake Bowl.

The third installment gives fans what they would expect: goofy physical humor, sarcastic asides about the Twin Cities, and an epic, slow-motion fight deep in the show.

Related stories:

This time, the intrepid (if rather dim witted) duo take on an evil clown who, after the failure of his Scary Tyler Moore house, sets his sights on destroying the Hartys and that most Minnesotan of icons, the Mall of America.

Along the way, there are killer robots, marriage counseling, and an attempt to order hamburgers and fries at the vegan raw-food restaurant Ecopolitan. the show's sarcastic asides get a bit lost this time around, confined mainly to some jabs at Summit Avenue, MOA, and the aforementioned south Minneapolis eatery. The broader physical humor, however, hits consistently.

Scrimshaw and Weinhagen are joined by Andy Kraft for a lot of the high-octane hijinks, including an extended underwater slow-motion battle between the brothers and a shark. Evil clown Dan Hetzel joins in the fun for the finale, deploying a rubber chicken like a set of nunchucks.

Ari Hoptman and Leslie Ball return as the Harty parents, Philmore and Lana. Hoptman's clueless and likely insane detective provides a nice layer of madness to the whole show, while Ball has the unenviable task of playing the straight woman, though she gets in a number of digs at her clueless family along the way.

Sulia Altenburg and Andrew Moy play a pair of middle-school classmates who are ensnared in the action. They also get a delightfully awkward date at the aforementioned Ecopolitan involving embarrassing admissions and the use of hand sanitizer.
