Over the years, Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week has grown from an event with small-scale parties and trunk shows to a week-long celebration boasting huge runway events, showcases for emerging talents, and wild fashion nights. Meanwhile, Voltage has paired local rock stars with clothing and accessory designers for a night of edgy looks and big crowds.

The future of both of these events is up in the air right now, as MNfashion has announced that it will no longer be hosting Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week events or producing Voltage.

MNfashion marketing director Katie Schutrop made the announcement this afternoon via press release:

Due to our quick growth as a non-profit organization run by all volunteers, MNfashion has come to a point where we have outgrown our current business practice. It is now important that we take a closer look at day-to-day operations so as to continue to serve retailers, emerging designers and established designers in the best way possible.

Looking ahead to the coming year, MNfashion will not be hosting events during Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week. This includes The Shows, Emerging Designer Showcase or other industry events. There are also no plans to produce Voltage at this time.

MNfashion is a non-profit that relies entirely on volunteers to make things happen. While the organization did a bang-up job putting together events like the Shows and Voltage, it appears that the strain of those happenings exponential growth wore the team of volunteers thin. Unless another group picks up organizing these events, it seems unlikely that they will be happening this year or in the future.

The future of MNfashion also appears to be uncertain. Also from the release:

While we are sad about not producing these events, we want to make sure that the next evolution of MNfashion is one that can be sustained and we feel this time will allow us to focus on what that new model will look like.

We'll update with more information as it becomes available.

Minnesota's fashion scene seems to be in a decline.. Or at least can't stay consistent.
