The Walker Art Center
did it last summer. Now, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is doing it for January. The nature- and craft-oriented site recently announced that it will be offering free gate admissions, normally $12, during the month of January.
For those who have never visited the arboretum down in Chaska, the space offers a wide variety of activities and things to experience. Folks who like the great outdoors (and are brave enough to attempt to enjoy the weather) can take on the 16 miles of cross country skiiing and snoeshow trails, walk through the perennial and wildflower gardens, or taking a hike to Harrison Sculpture Garden. Folks who prefer to experience the weather from a heated vehicle can take a bus tour on weekends.
For those who prefer the indoors, the facility offers a variety of happenings. On display now is a photography show featuring work from locals. There's also a free wine-making course coming, knitting sessions with Minnesota crafters by a roaring fireplace, orchid displays, and free yoga sessions.
