Trivia Mafia hosts Oscar movie trivia night this Tuesday
"This is our second year in a row holding the Oscar trivia night," says Sean McPherson, Mafia co-founder and one of the hosts for the evening's festivities. "It's a cool event because we get a lot of the movie fanatics who come to our other trivia nights, plus this year we've got the Cube Critics from MPR taking on the winning team."
According to McPherson, the evening will consist of eight rounds of trivia, including an image round, sound round, and even a six-degrees of Kevin Bacon round. At the end of those eight rounds, the winning team will face off against the Cube Critics in a lightning round for their chance to win fabulous prizes courtesy of MPR News and the Amsterdam. The event is free to attend, and McPherson says he expects between 130 to 140 movie fans to participate.
Trivia Mafia started hosting weekly happenings around town back in 2006, and today they host 40 events per week at various locations all over Minnesota. In addition, they host six "marquee" events throughout the year, including this week's Oscar trivia, a trivia pub crawl each summer, and a sports-themed trivia event that they plan to launch this spring.
"Whenever I tell someone how many events we host every year, they look at me like I'm insane," McPherson says. "But honestly, Chuck [Terhark, McPherson's Trivia Mafia co-founder] and I have managed to get a lot more help when it comes to writing up questions and planning these things, where I actually think it's easier now that it used to be."
While the Oscar event is sure to attract some serious cinema junkies, McPherson insists that the questions will be perfect for any movie lover.
"It's going to be a really fun night for everyone from the casual filmgoer to the aspiring Leonard Maltin."
