Three free things to do this week

Nicholas Harper doesn't create your typical portrait painting. His works harken back to yesteryear, while simultaneously exuding an otherworldly quality. His subjects, many with elongated necks, catch shadows, cast looks, and glow. His pieces have previously been seen at his space, Rogue Buddha Gallery, and the nearby Northeast Social. This Monday, he'll be revisiting some of his favorite artworks from his collection at Toast Wine Bar & Cafe in the North Loop as part of a special evening. 6-10 p.m. Monday.

Last fall, Hennepin Theatre Trust welcomed Joan Vorderbruggen to help curate a project where artists were invited to take over storefront windows, billboards, and other available spaces, making Block E a more creative and welcoming space. Months later, "Made Here" is still going strong. Tonight's celebration marks the opening of a new wave of installations. Take a ride on the Pedalstar Galactica, a kinetic sculpture powered by guests. Check out work by public artist/muralist Ta-coumba Tyrone Aiken in his new pop-up gallery, or the student art from the ongoing Figure Drawing Atelier. New window displays include efforts by Aaron Dysart, Vorderbruggen, and SooVAC's Alyssa Baguss and Miranda Brandon. 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

[Editor's note: This event has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 10 in anticipation of the incoming ice/snow storm.] Spring is technically here. And while we're have to wait and see if snow will return mid-week, the celebration planned at June this Thursday is optimistic. The south Minneapolis boutique offers vintage as well as new designer wares. This evening, the shop will be showcasing its spring finds and highlighting the work of a few visitors. Guests will be invited to check out hats from Ruby 3 by Anna Lee, and vintage, re-designed jewels by Shayne Barsness. Champagne and edible treats from the delightful Chowgirls Killer Catering will add even more fun to the party. 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
