Eliminators
This week we've got two horrible movies screening for the price of none, an opening party at the Walker that harkens back to the '30 and '40s, and a great reading at the Weisman. Come take a look.

Grumpy's Drinky Drive-In
(Grumpy's Bar & Grill, 1111 Washington Ave. S., Minneapolis)

Who doesn't love a good cinematic train wreck? Grumpy's Drinky Drive-In has been screening them for years. Two flicks will screen tonight. Eliminators features a "Mandroid," a scientist, a ninja, and a riverboat captain as they try to stop an evil scientist's big plan. The following flick, Hell on Earth, revisits similar themes, with a "Manborg," a kung-fu master, a punk, and a "vixen" doing stuff for the greater good. Locla beers and bottles of wine are half off. 8 p.m. Monday.

Free Thursday Nights (Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, 612-375-7600, www.walkerart.org)

This week's free night at the Walker will serve as an opening party to "Hopper Drawing: A Painter's Process," the museum's latest show. The exhibition explores the world of Edward Hopper, whose paintings and drawings explore the offices, bedrooms, and public spaces of the '30 and '40s. The opening-night party from 5 to 9 p.m. will feature a screening of New Wave flick The Savage Eye at 6:30 p.m., and the party will include cocktails from the era at the cash bar, plus a photobooth filled with props so you can create your own office pic. Period dress is encouraged. 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

L-R: Sturdevant, Hopper, Ostergaard
First Books Reading (Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, 333 E. River Rd., Minneapolis, 612-625-9494, www.wam.umn.edu)

What do Kate Hopper, Joshua Ostergaard, and Andy Sturdevant have in common? They each published their first book this year. Hopper's Ready for Air explores motherhood and premature birth, Ostergaard's The Devil's Snake Curve is both a love essay to baseball and an exploration of how the game is tied to American power, and Potluck Supper with Meeting to Follow is a collection of essays with local flavor sure to interest any fan of Sturdevant's writing. At this free reading, the authors will discuss their experiences writing, publishing the first time, and the creative process in general. 7 p.m. Thursday.
