Your name and your project's name: Kate Casanova. I'm collaborating with Ben Moren, Daniel Dean on Hotel Hotel.

Near the Mill City Museum at the south side of the Stone Arch Bridge. We will be projecting on the North Star Woolen Mill.
Meet the Northern Spark artist: Anthony Chapin and Erin Lavelle, Nighttime Post
|L-R: Daniel Dean, BenMoren, and Kate Casanova|
Hotel Hotel is a collaboration between Daniel Dean, Ben Moren, and myself. Our project is a poetic exploration of the relationship between living organisms and architecture. The occupants are various species of insects, such as caterpillars, beetles, and moths. In Hotel Hotel, the insects are anthropomorphized, yet remain alien. This project inserts these distinct species into the center of an imagined urban interior. Through the mediated nature of projection, we see these insects populate a building, metaphorically embodying the complexity of peoples, customs, cultures, and individual traits that make up the citizens of contemporary cities.
Is this your first time participating in Northern Spark?
It is my first time participating in Northern Spark and the fourth time for my collaborators, Daniel Dean and Ben Moren.
Please tell us a little bit about what you do creatively and why:
As a visual artist, I strive to reveal and confront human perceptions of nature. I work primarily in the mediums of sculpture, video, performance, and collage. My work ranges from a car that grows mushrooms to a 17-year project that involves collecting cicadas.
Entomology, posthumanism, and my studio mates.
Name three things that inspired and/or motivated you as a budding creative type:
Explorers, natural history museums, and rock concerts.
In addition to Northern Spark, what do you have going on now or coming up in the near future that should be on our radar?
I will be holding an Insect Tasting at the Katherine E. Nash gallery at the University of Minnesota in September as a part of the Social Practice exhibition. Ben Moren will be facilitating WZFR, a film residency taking place in rural Wisconsin this summer. Daniel Dean is a 2014 Art(ists) On the Verge fellow.
