Twin Cities fashion trucks come together for downtown shopping this week

Categories: Fashion
Food trucks are hot right now, but what about fashion trucks? Two years ago, Minnesota got its first fashion truck, the Fashion Mobile, followed by Flaunt Accessories taking to the streets last year. This Friday, four local fashion trucks will be coming together for an after-work event in downtown Minneapolis.

The four fashion trucks participating are Style a Go-Go, which offers pretty necklaces, scarves, belts, clutches, and flowing summertime dresses and tops; Flaunt, which specializes in locally made jewelry, hats, and other items; the Fashion Mobile, with its jewelry and dresses; and Pie Essentials, which sells lingerie, vibrators, and erotic gifts.

::UPDATE:: The Uncommon Loon, a mobile shopping unit offering thrift-store items, has also been added, totaling five fashion trucks this Friday.
The trucks will be coming together Friday, August 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Ramada Lot on Hawthorne between 10th and 11th Streets in downtown Minneapolis. While this will be the first event of its kind here in the Twin Cities, the group hopes to host a few more happenings this summer, so if things go well you might see a fashion-truck festival in your neighborhood soon.

My Voice Nation Help

When a fast-fashion chain  announced this month that they were rolling out a maternity line in five states—three of which have the highest teen pregnency rates in the country—they were accused of what has become a common charge: glamorizing  teen pregnency. Like Juno, Jamie Lynn Spears, and Katherine Heigl's character in Knocked Up before them, Bristol Palin, 16 and Pregnant, and The Secret Life of the American Teenagerhave all faced criticism for promoting a deceptively attractive view of teenage motherhood. Have the baby, their implicit argument seems to go, and you can still look cute, have a career, and maybe even marry the father of your child.
